It seems there's always a Friday surprise in the fields -- and this week it's the crisp, light, sweet Fennel. Many people over the years have said they didn't like fennel until they tasted Henry's fennel, so be sure and give it a try. It's great raw, sauteed, or stir-fried.
I just added more fennel facts and recipes to our weekly Food & Farm Notes. Just CLICK HERE, and then on the 3rd item in the left sidebar, "About Fennel" -- to find out why it's known as "the food of the gods," plus how and why it may protect you from cancer.
And don't miss out on Teresa's 10 kinds of mint this week, including Mojito, and the Italian Nepitella. Click here to read about Nepitella, and watch a pretty hilarious video of Chef Fabio Trabocchi showing you what to do with it.
And don't forget that Iced Herb Teas are the best way to beat the heat. Teresa has recipes for Minty Lemon Verbena, Ginger-Peppermint, and Sage-Lemon Iced Teas here.
Last but not least, our neighbors Larry and Marilyn Wettstein are bringing up their certified organic meats and eggs this Sat., with many things perfect for your 4th of July grilling and picnics -- including the famous Goat Brats!
Look for Larry and Marilyn's "Organic Pastures" stand on the West side of the market . . . ask us and we'll point you in the right direction.
See you Saturday!
